Having invented the character of the orangutan Librarian for his Discworld Science Fantasy novels, Terry realised that he actually knew very little about these close cousins of humans. Why did they behave so differently from chimps and gorillas? And why were they so in need of protection? Convinced that the sad heaps of ‘deflated inner tubes’ one saw in the zoo was not the real animal, Terry planned a boat trip, up the Sekonyer River from Kumi in Borneo to meet orangutans in the wild.
Terry Pratchett’s Jungle Quest is a record of this trip, and after many requests is now being made available on DVD.
